In today’s episode of Gary Talks Physical Media, Gary takes a trip down to Skid Row for a look at the brand-new Limited Edition 4K UHD SteelBook release of Little Shop of Horrors, the beloved 1986 horror-comedy musical starring Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene, Steve Martin and Vincent Gardenia, directed by Frank Oz and featuring the unforgettable voice of Levi Stubbs as Audrey II.

Feed me, Seymour! FEED ME!

Based on the hit off-Broadway musical by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, which itself was inspired by Roger Corman's 1960 cult classic, Little Shop of Horrors tells the story of Seymour Krelborn (Rick Moranis), a mild-mannered florist's assistant working at a struggling flower shop on Skid Row.

Everything changes when Seymour discovers a mysterious and unusual plant that he names Audrey II, after his coworker and secret crush, Audrey (Ellen Greene).

The plant quickly becomes a sensation, bringing fame and fortune to the struggling shop. Unfortunately, Audrey II has one rather disturbing dietary requirement.

Human blood.

And as the plant grows, so does its appetite.

Nearly four decades after its original release, Gary revisits Little Shop of Horrors to see how this wonderfully bizarre combination of horror, comedy, romance, science fiction and musical theater holds up today.

How great is Rick Moranis as Seymour? Does Ellen Greene steal the movie as Audrey? Is Steve Martin's sadistic dentist, Orin Scrivello, one of the funniest supporting characters of the 1980s? And just how remarkable are the film's practical effects, puppetry and animatronics used to bring Audrey II to life?

Gary also explores the film's unforgettable musical numbers, including "Suddenly, Seymour," "Somewhere That's Green," "Dentist!" and the title song, along with the creative contributions of Frank Oz, Howard Ashman and Alan Menken.

And, of course, there's the fascinating story of the movie's original ending, which was famously replaced before the film's theatrical release.

Then it's time to dig into the new Limited Edition 4K Ultra HD SteelBook release.

Gary examines:

The 4K UHD presentation and how the movie looks in high definition

HDR, color reproduction and picture quality

Audio presentation, especially important for a musical

The film's incredible practical effects and how they hold up in 4K

Special features and supplemental material

The Limited Edition SteelBook artwork and packaging

Whether the new 4K is worth upgrading from previous Blu-ray editions

For longtime fans of Little Shop of Horrors, does this new 4K release finally deliver the definitive home video experience? And for anyone discovering the movie for the first time, is this the perfect introduction to one of the most unusual and entertaining movie musicals ever made?

Most importantly, does the new Little Shop of Horrors 4K SteelBook deserve a place in your physical media collection?
