In today’s episode of Gary Talks Physical Media, Gary takes an in-depth look at 88 Films’ new 4K Ultra HD release of Delirium, the bizarre and stylish 1987 Italian horror thriller from director Lamberto Bava.

Also known as Le foto di Gioia and Delirium: Photo of Gioia, the film stars Serena Grandi as Gioia, a former model who now runs a successful men’s magazine. But when the models appearing in her publication begin turning up dead, Gioia finds herself at the center of a twisted murder mystery involving obsession, voyeurism, jealousy and a killer with a particularly warped point of view.

And when we say warped, we mean it.

Rather than simply showing us the killer stalking his victims, Bava occasionally lets us see them through the murderer’s distorted eyes, resulting in some of the strangest and most memorable imagery in 1980s Italian horror.

Gary dives into Delirium to see how this unusual mixture of giallo, slasher movie, erotic thriller and psychological horror holds up nearly 40 years later. Does the murder mystery work? How effective is Serena Grandi in the lead? Does the film deliver the visual flair fans expect from the Bava name? And just how gloriously strange does this movie get?

Then Gary examines 88 Films’ new 4K UHD release, including the 4K presentation and picture quality, HDR, audio, supplemental material, packaging and the overall collector experience.

For fans of Italian horror and giallo cinema, boutique physical media has become one of the best ways to rediscover films that once lived on the fringes of home video. Delirium certainly isn't conventional, but conventional isn't exactly what you come looking for when Lamberto Bava is behind the camera.

Has 88 Films delivered the definitive physical media edition of this wonderfully weird slice of 1980s Italian horror?

And most importantly, is Delirium worth adding to your 4K collection?
